SIS Labs
The Social and International Studies Department maintains two lab rooms for the use of students taking departmental courses. Classes are occasionally scheduled for these labs (as their regular meeting space or on an as-needed basis). When an instructor has reserved the space, that use takes priority. Outside those times, every effort is made to keep the labs staffed and open for use by students as needed. Schedules of available hours are posted in the labs, outside the labs, and on the department web site each term.
The Learning Lab--J-218
- 28 individual carrels, each with a computer, an extended (European configuration) keyboard, headphones, and internet access.
- Designed primarily for language instruction, this lab can also be used for a wide range of other instructional purposes.
- Equipped with Sony Virtuoso Major software which allows students to work individually or in groups with oversight and guidance from the instructor's station and, when appropriate, to record the work they do (oral or written) for instructor review.
- Students are welcome to work in this lab any time it is staffed. Instructors will occasionally bring an entire class to the lab, but individual students are welcome during these times on a space-available basis.
The SIS Lab--J-216
- Arranged for general study, small group work, or course work.
- 12 computer stations with internet access, Microsoft office, and SPSS software.
- 1 work station equipped with an LCD projector, which may be used for presentation review before class presentations (so long as this can be done without disturbing other students). T
- 2 DVD / VHS viewing stations with headphones for students who need to view video resources as arranged by their instructors.
- Students are welcome to work in this lab any time it is staffed except for those times when a class is meeting in the room.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are not to remove any materials from either of the labs.
